WELCOME AND EMBRACE DIVERSE CULTURES
It's important that every student feels welcomed and accepted regardless of ethnicity, culture, and first language. There are ways that teachers can nurture a diverse learning environment and make it safe for every student. You may assign readings or bring in guest speakers from varying cultures. You can structure discussions as dialogue and not debate.
ENCOURAGE SHARING OF CULTURAL EVENTS AND LANGUAGE
There are creative ways to teach and expand knowledge of diverse cultures throughout the world. You can bring in the families of students to share something of their culture, or request that parents take a survey that answers questions such as, How do they celebrate birthdays and specific holidays? Or what are their beliefs around discipline and teaching? You could also Take IT Global and partner with schools and classrooms around the globe so students can actually work with and converse with other students on other parts of the planet.
